Celebrating Federer's 36th Birthday with 36 Hot Shots
There’s simply no way that the greatness of
Roger Federer
could ever be summed up in a five-minute video, but we owe it to ourselves to try on the Swiss maestro’s 36th birthday.
More:
Roger Federer, Dog Whisperer
So full props to the ATP Tour for putting together this montage of great Federer moments. They weren’t able to include any of Federer’s Grand Slam glory due to copyright issues (those highlights belong specifically to the Grand Slams), but there are plenty of exquisite hot shots to choose from nonetheless.
If we had to choose a favorite we’d probably take No.21, a stunning behind-the-back lob that Federer played against
Philipp Kohlschreiber
in Halle in Halle in 2015. We are also partial to Federer’s ‘tweener against
Benjamin Becker
in Dubai in 2014. It was a shot that left the German off camera, sprawled out on the ground as Federer and the stunned crowd celebrated in unison.
And if it’s Grand Slam glory you crave—of the Federer variety of course—the Australian Open put together this mind-bending compilation of, you guessed it, Federer’s top 36 shots from the Australian Open (we like the point against
Mischa Zverev
from this year’s edition, where Federer plays two perfect lobs on the same point).
The best part of both of these tributes is how jazzed the commentators are. We frequently hear cries of “
Cmon! Are you kidding me?
” and “
That is unbelievable
.”
Yep, Roger Federer has been a gift to tennis ever since he hit the tour. Here’s to you, Swiss maestro, hope you have a great 36th birthday and may you keep churning out the hits until you turn 40!
