Bianca Andreescu has a small stress fracture in her back and will miss next week’s Western and Southern Open in Cincinnati.

The 23-year-old Canadian, ranked 41, isn’t sure if she’ll be good in time for the US Open, which begins on Monday August 28. She says she hurt her back in Montreal during her first-round loss to Camila Giorgi.

“During my match in Washington I started experiencing pain in my back that kept getting worse and I did everything I could the other night in Montreal to play at my highest level,” she wrote on Twitter. “All of this led me to undergo medical examinations and sadly the results have revealed a small stress fracture in my back.”

Andreescu says she plans to take things day by day for now.

“My main focus will be on giving my back the rest it needs,” she wrote. “I’ll be taking things day by day and aiming to return to the court as soon as I can, and stay optimistic for US Open.”
