Petra Kvitova’s agent has shared a report from surgeon Radek Kebrle, who operated on the Czech after she suffered injuries to the tendons and nerves of her left hand following a burglary and knife attack at her home in Prostejov, Czech Republic.

“Surgeon Radek Kebrle said that the operation on Petra’s left hand went well, with no complications,” wrote Katie Spellman, Kvitova’s P.R. person. “Petra will be on bed rest for 14 days, she will begin slow rehab about 6-8 weeks post operation.”

According to the surgeon, Kvitova’s best-case scenario is to return to tennis in six months. However no timetable has been set.

The two-time Wimbledon champion shared the horror of her experience on Facebook on Tuesday. “In my attempt to defend myself I was badly injured on my left hand,” she wrote. “I am shaken by fortunate to be alive.”
