A day after parting ways with longtime coach Riccardo Piatti, and the rest of his team, Italy’s Jannik Sinner has announced that he will begin work with Simone Vagnozzi, a former ATP player from Italy who has coached Marco Cecchinato as well as Stefano Travaglia.

“Happy to announce I’ll be working with Simone Vagnozzi as my coach moving forward and he will be heading up my team,” Sinner said in a statement on social media. “Currently we have no plans to add any more team members at this time but we will review the situation as we go.”

The announcement ends speculation – at least for now – that Sinner may be working on developing a partnership with Magnus Norman, the former World No.2 who coached Stan Wawrinka to his three Grand Slam titles.

World No.10 Sinner made incredible strides with Piatti over the last few years, and the Italian is thought to be a potential Grand Slam winner. In 2020 at Roland-Garros he became the youngest quarterfinalist in Paris since Novak Djokovic in 2006. At the Australian Open this year he became the youngest to reach the quarterfinals since Nick Kyrgios in 2015.

Sinner already owns five ATP titles, and 86 career wins on tour.

“After many successful years together, my coaching team and I have decided to part ways. I’d like to thank Riccardo, Dalibor, Claudio, Andrea, Cristian, and Gaia for everything they have done for me from the beginning of my career until now,” Sinner wrote Wednesday on social media. “Riccardo especially, he taught me many things that will forever remain a part of my tennis.”
