Australian crowds in Perth cheered with delight as their home team claimed the Hopman Cup title for the first time since 1999.

ATP: Federer Moves into Brisbane Final Against Raonic

Nick Kyrgios and Daria Gavrilova teamed up to defeat Ukraine in Saturday’s final in the eight team international competition.

"It means a lot, it is my first real title to have won," Kyrgios said. “It is the perfect way to start the year, I haven't lost a match yet and I am riding a lot of confidence into the Australian summer.”

Kyrgios faced off against Alexandr Dolgopolov in the men’s singles. Not facing much resistance, Kyrgios wrapped up a 6-3, 6-4 win in just under an hour. But not before Dolgopolov hit this fancy shot between the legs midway through the second set.

Things were tougher for Gavrilova who took on No. 19 ranked Elina Svitolina.

Yet Gavrilova, who recently became an Australian citizen, persevered en route to a 6-4, 7-6(6) after saving set points in the tiebreak.

"It is the biggest event I have ever won and just representing Australia for the first time and winning this title straight away is amazing,” Gavrilova said later.

Kyrgios was the big hero all week for team Australia Green. He won all four of his singles matches, including over UK’s Andy Murray earlier in the week.

The last time Australia won the Hopman Cup was back in 1999 when Jelena Dokic and Mark Philippoussis took home the title.
