Second Serve

The only seeds still standing in Auckland square off for a spot in the final.

Sloane Stephens tamed powerful British qualifier Naomi Broady, 7-6 (6), 6-3, to set up a ASB Classic semifinal against former world No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki.

Broady, who hit 14 aces in her upset of second-seeded Ana Ivanovic and smacked 21 aces in her contentious three-set win over Jelena Ostapenko, managed just three aces against Stephens.

"I was playing a tough opponent, she's tricky to play obviously because she has a really big serve," said Stephens. "So I was happy to get the win but it was definitely a tricky match."

The third-seeded Wozniacki routed Alexandra Dulgheru, 6-1, 6-0, breaking serve five times in a 52-minute thrashing.

Wozniacki has dominated Stephens winning all five of their prior encounters in straight sets. The 17th-ranked Dane is bidding for her first final since losing to Angelique Kerber in the Stuttgart final last April.

Qualifier Tamira Paszek will take on Julia Goerges in the other semifinal. Paszek fought off Kirsten Flipkens, 6-4, 6-7 (3), 6-3.
