ATP Announces New Event in Istanbul for 2015

Men's tennis is coming to Turkey, as the ATP Tour announced Tuesday that the country will host its first-ever tour event in Istanbul in 2015.

The Garanti Koza Istanbul Open, a 250-level clay-court event, will take place from April 27-May 3 and will be held at the Koza World of Sports. The venue is billed as 'the world's largest tennis academy' with 63 indoor and outdoor courts. The center court has a retractable roof and capacity for 7,500. The event will take place alongside the Portugal Open in Oeiras and the BMW Open by FWU AG in Munich.

"This incredible new facility in Istanbul will make a wonderful addition to the many remarkable venues that feature on the ATP World Tour," said ATP executive chairman and president Chris Kermode. "We are delighted that the ATP World Tour will be taking place in Turkey for the first time."

Kermode confirmed that the addition to the ATP Tour schedule means there will be 62 tournaments in 32 countries in 2015.

Istanbul previously hosted the WTA's season-ending championships, on the court pictured above, from 2011-2013. The International-level women's event, the TEB BNP Paribas Istanbul Cup, makes its debut in the city next week.
