Laura Robson Named SportsAid Ambassador

Great Britain's Laura Robson has been named for SportsAid, a charity in the UK that looks to help the nation's up-and-coming athletes. SportsAid provides assistance to athletes at the start of their careers to help them meet the cost of training and competing, and also provides mentoring opportunities.

In her role as ambassador, Robson will work directly with many of the charity's female athletes, including those in tennis and wheelchair tennis. She'll be on hand at workshops and other events, while the Duchess of Cambridge serves as a patron of the charity.

"Seeing the work that SportsAid does and knowing the impact that sport can have on society, I want to play my part in empowering young women to become the champions of the future," Robson said.

"It's a privilege for me to be a role model, as an athlete and an Olympian, and it's important that I do everything I can to help young women to succeed in sports, focus on their strengths, and inspire others to do the same. I feel privileged to work for such a great cause alongside the Duchess of Cambridge and look forward to a long lasting partnership with such a great organization."

The 20-year-old has been out of action since January, and is recovering from wrist surgery.
