Video: Three Amazing Points by Novak Djokovic from the 2014 Wimbledon Final
Novak Djokovic
played amazing tennis to win his seventh Grand Slam and second Wimbledon title on Sunday against
Roger Federer
. The Serb has had some tough luck in major finals of late, but he was on point from start to finish, as these three videos demonstrate.
Rapid Reaction:
Social Media Highlights from Djokovic's Epic Victory
Exhibit A (above):
Djokovic was known more for his slipping than his sliding during the fortnight, but watch how well the Serb slides on this point, first to the left, then to the right, before cruising into the net to pick off the drop volley. Absolutely perfect stuff.
Exhibit B: (Below)
With Roger on the attack at the net, and knocking off a perfect volley, Djokovic replies with another slide out wide to the forehand side as he snaps a perfect forehand pass that kisses the line crosscourt. World-class stuff from Nole.
Exhibit C: (Below)
Note how well both players are striking the ball in this rally. Watch how Djokovic changes the direction of the ball, taking it up the line with his backhand to gain a slight advantage in the point. But Federer is solid, staying with him and forcing Djokovic to work incrementally. Finally Djokovic goes down the line with the forehand and races in to the net, making a last-second decision to hit the swing volley, which works perfectly and allows him to finish with the drop volley again.
This is the type of extraordinary play that we saw from the Serb all day, and it’s why he is now a seven-time Grand Slam champion.
