After a dispute in the 12th game of the third set of their third-round battle on Saturday at Wimbledon, Juan Martin del Potro and Lucas Pouille got into a heated argument at their chairs as the set concluded. Del Potro was angry at the Frenchman because he didn’t make a call at the baseline on a ball that was shown by Hawk-Eye to have kissed the line moments earlier.

On the play, Pouille raised his hand as if to indicate a Del Potro shot was well out and Del Potro elected to challenge anyway. When the ball was ruled in, Delpo shot a menacing glare at Pouille and the Frenchman responded with some words that earned him a verbal abuse warning.

Del Potro was broken a few points later and when the players toweled off at their chairs they had words. After chatting with umpire Fergus Murphy while Pouille looked on, Del Potro tried to make his point to the Frenchman. Eventually he got frustrated and told Pouille to shut up, which the Frenchman took offense to.

“Did you tell me to shut up,” Pouille says.

“You don’t say that to me.”

Then Pouille appeals to Fergus Murphy. “He said shut up to me and you didn’t do anything.”

“Yes, yes I did,” blurts Del Potro.

Eventually Del Potro gets up and heads off the court for a bathroom break while Pouille continues to argue. The match was suspended due to darkness with Pouille leading, 6-7(4), 7-6(6), 7-5.
