Novak Djokovic’s inspiration for his Wimbledon run came from a special place—his three-year-old son Stefan. After winning the title on Sunday the 13-time major champion was moved to see that Stefan had been brought in to his player’s box, and was looking on as he received the trophy.

“For the first time in my life I have someone screaming ‘Daddy, daddy,’” said Djokovic as he held his on-court interview with the trophy on Sunday.

“He’s under five years old so he couldn’t watch the matches live,” Djokovic said. “But we were hoping that if this happens, if I hold the trophy, that he can be there to witness it, so I can’t be happier, I’m very emotional for him being there, and obviously for my wife and my whole team.”

After the final Djokovic shared a tender moment with Stefan and his wife Jelena before being whisked off for media duties.

In his press conference Djokovic elaborated on his feelings, the joy that he felt and how winning this title with his child in attendance was a great motivator for him.

“It was one of, if not the biggest, motivation I've had for this Wimbledon this year,” Djokovic said. “I was visualizing, imagining this moment of him coming to the stands, cherishing this moment with my wife and me and everyone. It's hard to describe.

“He was not there till the very moment when I was walking to get an interview. He walked in. So that was just a moment that I will carry inside of my heart forever.”
