Martina Navratilova to Compete at the WTA Finals

The WTA announced Tuesday that Martina Navratilova will compete in the inaugural WTA Legends exhibition event to be held during the tour's season-ending championships in Singapore.

An eight-time singles champion and 11-time doubles champion at the tour's year-end championships, Navratilova will also help design of the newly named Martina Navratilova WTA Finals Doubles Trophy, awarded to the doubles champions. The team that hoists the Martina Navratilova WTA Finals Doubles Trophy will have certainly earned it; beginning this year, the doubles knockout event will feature eight teams, rather than four.

Earlier in the week at Roland Garros, the WTA announced the rebranding of its year-end event as the WTA Finals. The rebranding effort is the culmination of numerous changes the tour has made to the eight-woman event since last season. Following a three year run in Istanbul, the event moves to Singapore for 2014. On the court, the event itself will now feature the expanded doubles field, WTA Legends and WTA Rising Stars exhibitions.

Off the court, the event will feature
concerts, coaches and trade symposiums, Women in Business Leadership Conference, daily fan festivals open to the public, and a VIP experience that the WTA hopes "will elevate the fan experience to a unique year-end celebration."

"Playing at the WTA's season finale provided some of the most memorable moments of my career, so I am honored to be in a position to support the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global in an official capacity," Navratilova said.
