Video: Despite Loss to Gulbis, Federer Still Has His “Maestro Moments”
— TennisNow (@Tennis_Now)
June 1, 2014
Roger Federer
dropped a hard-fought five-set decision that included 59 unforced errors on Sunday in Paris, but fans of Federer will still enjoy the first two shots on this highlight reel, provided by Roland Garros.
Media Mash:
Day 8 Social Media Highlights
We went to the "
Roland Garros Shots of Day 8
" on the Roland Garros YouTube page, but neither of these shots were included. The second point by Federer is such a gem, we just figured we needed to share it.
The fourth point on this highlight reel also includes the overhead that Roger will be seeing in his nightmares for the next few nights. Serving at 5-3, 40-15 in the second set, Federer had an easy smash that he failed to hit to the open court.
Federer would later say: “I was simply running out of luck. I could not conclude the set. I made a mistake, a small mistake. He returned one small and sometimes, you know, there are scenarios that you cannot account for, things that happen.
“I had my chances. I was leading 5 4. I was still in the tiebreak. I had some opportunities. And that's where I have regrets obviously, because after a smash or a volley, nine times out of ten you get the job done.”
Not to worry, Federer is already putting the loss behind him and gearing up for the grass. “Mentally I have already switched to the grass, to be quite honest,” he said. “For me, it's like, Okay, clay court season was fun, but we are moving on. Clay doesn't need me anymore, I got flushed out here.”
