Since winning her first WTA title at the age of 16 in 2005, Michaella Krajicek has struggled with various injuries and illnesses that stalled her bright promise. The half-sister of former Wimbledon champion Richard Krajicek reached the quarterfinals at Wimbledon in 2007 and held a career-high ranking of No. 30 in the world in 2008. After missing much of 2012 and 2013 due to heart problems, the Dutchwoman was given a clean bill of health and has begun her comeback on the WTA Tour. Ranked No. 207 coming into her home tournament in this week the Netherlands, tournament organizers rewarded her perserverance with a wildcard.

After defeating Jana Cepelova, best known for defeating Serena Williams in Charleston this April, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 for her first win at a WTA event since this very event a year ago, Krajicek got the surprise of her life. Boyfriend Martin Emmrich, a doubles specialist on the ATP Tour who's also competing this week, came down to meet her on the court.

"Exactly one year ago, we met here...and I felt this moment was magic," he said. "I know I want to spend the rest of my life with you...So, I ask you in front of all these people, you do want to marry me?"

(Spoiler alert: She said yes!)
