Second Serve

Florian Mayer has pulled the dive to die for in Halle. In 2013, Mayer wowed with a double-fisted backhand dive that saw him go chest first into the grass to retrieve a ball of the racquet of Richard Gasquet (we swear we saw it but the video has since been pulled from YouTube).

This year Mayer dives to the forehand side, but the result was equally breathtaking. It most certainly would have made Boris Becker proud (had be been watching rather than promoting his book, but that’s another story).

The 31-year-old, who is trying to make his return after a year-long hiatus due to injury, won the point and went on to notch the 6-4, 7-6(3) upset of American Steve Johnson. Next up? Roger Federer in the quarterfinals.
