Serena Aims For Early Comeback

Serena Williams is set to give birth to her first child in September.

The 23-time Grand Slam champion is aiming for a career rebirth early next season.

The reigning Australian Open champion is hoping to defend her Melbourne title in January, her coach, Patrick Mouratoglou said.

"For anyone, it sounds impossible, because it’s too short a time after you give birth,”Mouratolgou said in comments published by the AP. "But Serena is Serena. There is no rule that you can apply to Serena. She has a body that is not anybody’s body. She has a will that is also completely unusual. She is one of a kind.”

The former world No. 1, who was in sister Venus' support box to see her defeat Kurumi Nara at Roland Garros yesterday, has been practicing while pregnant, says her coach.

Mouratoglou said he recently received a text from Serena saying: "It’s going to sound weird, but I’m going on the court. I don’t want to lose my touch."

In an interview with Gayle King, Serena revealed she found out she was pregnant two days before the Australian Open began and won her Open Era-record 23rd Grand Slam title already weeks into her pregnancy.

Venus may have inadvertently revealed Serena is expecting a girl during her post-match interview at Roland Garros when asked what Serena's baby will call her.

"She's going to call me 'favorite aunt,' " Venus said.

However, Serena suggested in an Instagram post she's not sure if she will give birth to a girl or a boy.
