Jimmy Connors Defends Friend Raymond Moore
What’s more important than friendship?
Jimmy Connors
couldn’t think of anything during this paparazzi video by TMZ Sports. He was asked about
Raymond Moore
’s comments and said that we should look at everything Moore has done on the positive side for tennis.
“Ray Moore is my friend,” says Connors. “He’s been my friend for 50 years. Look at everything he’s done on the positive side for tennis, women’s tennis and men’s tennis, in general. That’s the way I look at it. Sometimes you say things that are loose statements. You have to give the guy an opportunity. He’s been great for tennis in the past.”
Moore, the former CEO of the BNP Paribas Open, stepped down from his post last week after making controversial remarks about women's tennis riding on the coattails of the men.
Connors adds: “Let it go. Look at the positive things that he’s done and move on.”
Connors goes on to discuss
Maria Sharapova
’s drug suspension with the anonymous TMZ interviewer, but it’s really not clear which side he is on from this interview. “I’m so far out of it now, it doesn’t matter,” he says. “Whatever it takes to be good, you have to do that. I hope she has an opportunity to come back and to play.”
