The 34-year-old Spaniard put his trademark grit on display at the Foro Italico on this rollicking point of his three-set victory over Italian Filippo Volandri, racing to and fro before finally following up his near perfect lob with a dainty drop shot to seal the point.

Ferrer would go on to grab the game, the second set and the match, 4-6, 7-5, 6-1, to set up a second-round encounter with compatriot Guillermo Garcia Lopez.
