Rafael Nadal’s short-term future remains very up in the air, but we should know a lot more about Nadal’s status as it relates to Roland-Garros on Thursday.

Tennis Express

The Spaniard, who has not played a competitive match since January, has scheduled a press conference for Thursday in Mallorca, as rumors swirl that he will be pulling out of this year’s French Open.

“Rafa Nadal will hold a press conference tomorrow at 4pm at the Rafa Nadal Academy by MoviStar to inform about his participation in Roland Garros,” an email from Nadal’s team read. “If he plays or not and the reasons either way will be only be communicated tomorrow.”

The 14-time Roland-Garros champion has been trying desperately to recover from an injured left him. After suffering the injury in Australia in January, the original timeline for recovery was six to eight weeks. But Nadal has not been able to make significant progress and has thus been forced to pull out of events at Barcelona, Madrid and Rome.

He has never played Roland-Garros without playing on clay prior to the event.

The 36-year-old Spaniard is 112-3 lifetime at Rome. He will turn 37 on June third.
