As part of a campaign by Adidas, Andy Murray participated in a “Road Tennis” challenge to promote the release of the adipower barricade 7.0 shoes.

The current World No. 3 (in regular tennis) joined boxer David Haye, rapper Example, and Davis Cup teammate Ross Hutchins in a London warehouse just before the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals.

The earliest version of the game appeared in Barbados around 1930. Road tennis is played on the street, with players chalking out their own courts. Picture a giant game of ping pong played on the ground. Murray traded in his Head Youtek Radical Pro for a wooden paddle called a “bat” and took to the…court?

So what did Andy think about Road Tennis? “I had good fun,” Murray said, “It took a bit of getting used to but I got the hang of it and was getting quite into it by the end.”

Murray’s Road Tennis adventure was just the start of a year-long campaign by Adidas called “The Game is the Game.” Adidas will challenge top tennis players to compete in a series of “tennis-based games.”

“The event marked the start of our new campaign,” Adidas explained, “where we’ll be challenging some of the world’s best tennis players, around the biggest tournaments next year.”
