Report: Gimelstob History of Violent Acts
Justin Gimelstob
will be stepping into a legal danger zone when he enters a California court to face a felony battery charge on December 12th.
While Gimelstob's lawyer will try to reduce his charge to a misdemeanor, the Tennis Channel analyst and ATP board member will face at least three other alleged episodes of violent behavior in his court hearing,
The Daily Telegraph
reports

In a bizarre story, Gimelstob, reportedly dressed as a pilot from the film Top Gun, snuck up behind venture capitalist Randall Kaplan, who was walking with his wife and and two-year-old daughter in Los Angeles at about 6:30 on Halloween night.
Gimelstob allegedly attacked Kaplan from behind striking him 50 times and threatening to kill him, Kaplan told police.
Kaplan, a friend of Gimelstob's estranged wife, Cary, alleges the former UCLA all American had previously threatened him. Kaplan claims he contacted Gimelstob's attorney to ask him to stop making threats.
A spokesman for Kaplan told
The Daily Telegraph
that Kaplan has received “a large amount of emails, texts and phone calls from people describing past assaults, threats, and other events involving Justin Gimelstob.”
The Telegraph
reports at least three allegations of Gimelstob lashing out in prior acts of violence are expected to be raised in his December 12th court appearance:
*Gimelstob allegedly chased Kris Thabit, a friend of his estranged wife Cary, "out of a Santa Monica restaurant in November 2016 and began an altercation which allegedly left Thabit with a cut lip."
*Gimelstob allegedly had to be restrained by players, officials and spectators "after trying to choke an opponent at a paddle tennis tournament in Venice Beach, Los Angeles, a year ago."
*Cary Gimelstob filed a domestic violence restraining order against estranged husband Justin in 2016, alleging he “physically assaulted, harassed, verbally attacked and stole,” according to
The Los Angeles Times
report on the case.
*According to the domestic restraining order Cary Gimelstob filed on the weekend of December 5-7th, 2015: "Justin physically assaulted me twice in front of our son … Justin also informed me that he had placed a video recording device in my bedroom and had recordings of me having sex with another man and intended to show them to [their son] … Justin also broke into the house I was living in and threatened to continue breaking into the house I was living in in the future.”
Gimelstob was booked on felony battery charges and released on $50,000 bail.
Shawn Holley, Gimelstob's lawyer, issued this statement to
The Telegraph
on its report: "I advised Mr. Briggs that I had strong evidence to refute each of the claims in his article, but needed until tomorrow to provide it to him, as I had been in court all morning and had just returned to my office. He refused to grant us the requested time.”
A member of the
ATP board of directors since 2008
, Gimelstob has reportedly been positioned as heir apparent to Chris Kermode as future ATP President.
