As the great T.S. Elliot once said: “Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go.”

More Paris Masters: Nadal Punishes Nemesis Rosol in Paris

So now we know what Grigor Dimitrov was thinking when he tried, and successfully executed, this ‘tweener on break point in the first set of his 7-6(3), 7-6(2) victory over Marin Cilic.

To quote another cultural icon, Warren Buffett, “Risk comes from not knowing what you're doing.” Well, this one doesn’t apply, because Grigor clearly knew what he was doing. He takes the ball out of the air and wins the point, that’s what.

But before you think Grigor was showboating all day long in this match, realize that he thwarted Cilic on ten of ten break points in business-like fashion to stay in the match. Well done, Grigor!

The victory snaps a five-match losing streak against Top-20 opposition for Dimitrov. Cilic is the highest-ranked scalp that the Bulgarian has claimed since Madrid, when he defeated then No. 9-ranked Stan Wawrinka.

In other second-round action at the Paris Masters, Tomas Berdych moved past France’s Edouard Roger-Vasselin, 6-3, 4-6, 7-5, John Isner downed Aljaz Bedene, 6-3, 7-6(3) and Richard Gasquet defeated Leonardo Mayer, 6-2, 7-5.

In the first match of the day on Court Centrale, Kei Nishikori defeated Jeremy Chardy in three sets, 7-6(4), 6-7(6), 6-1, to set up a third-round encounter with Gasquet.

Dimitrov will face David Ferrer in the third round.
