When the details initially emerged in Lois Ann Goodman’s murder case, it looked like she was guilty as charged. The former U.S. Open referee was arrested for allegedly bludgeoning her 80-year-old husband, Alan, to death with a coffee cup.

But Goodman's lawyers told the press that she passed a privately administered polygraph examination, testing truthful when she denied any role in her husband's death.

Maybe Mr. Goodman really did take a bad tumble down the stairs, and we are all horrible people for thinking a 70-year-old grandmother could be a cold-blooded killer. Then again, maybe she was so cool that she fooled the lie detector. We’ll just have to see how things play out in court.
