Federer, Nadal in Same Half of Shanghai Draw
Roger Federer
and
Rafael Nadal
could meet for the 34th time in the semifinals of the Shanghai Rolex Masters. If they do, it would be the first time that the two legends have met since the 2014 Australian Open.

Federer, seeded second at Shanghai, will face a qualifier or Sam Querrey in the second round after a bye, and could face
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga
in the round of 16. If the seeds hold, the Swiss would face
Kei Nishikori
in the quarterfinals.
Federer, the defending Shanghai champion, defeated
Novak Djokovic
in last year’s semifinals before ousting Gilles Simon in the final.
Nadal, seeded eighth, could face Ivo Karlovic or Jeremy Chardy in the second round. He would face Milos Raonic in the third round and Stan Wawrinka in the quarterfinals if the seeds hold.
In the top half of the draw, top-seeded Djokovic could face Martin Klizan or China’s Ze Zhang in the second round. If the seeds hold he’d face Feliciano Lopez in the round of 16 and
David Ferrer
in the quarterfinals.
Andy Murray
, Djokovic’s possible semifinal opponent, could potentially face David Goffin in a Davis Cup final preview in the third round (though John Isner is the higher seed). Murray would end up facing
Tomas Berdych
in the quarterfinals if the seeds hold.
Notable first-rounders in Shanghai include Bernard Tomic vs. Fernando Verdasco, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga vs. Tommy Robredo, Alexandr Dolgopolov vs. Borna Coric and Benoit Paire vs. David Goffin.
