Jabeur Goals: Win A Grand Slam, Hit with This Slam Champion

Ons Jabeur is on a dual major mission.

The Tunisian trailblazer wants to win a maiden Grand Slam title and hit with a beloved Grand Slam champion: Gabriela Sabatini.

The fifth-seeded Jabeur defeated Australian Ajla Tomljanovic 6-4, 7-6(4) on Arthur Ashe Stadium today to make history as the first African woman in the Open Era to advance to the US Open semifinals.

Wimbledon finalist Jabeur scored her 11th win in her last 12 major matches.

Jabeur is aiming to win a maiden major title and hit with one of her tennis heroes, 1990 US Open champion Sabatini, whom she met at the US Open earlier this week.

"Of course, I'm a big fan of hers. She's very nice person," Jabeur said of Sabatini. "Somehow I have a lot of love for Argentinians. She's really amazing. We tweeted a lot before, and I was wanting to meet her. I was lucky enough. She was passing by. I said hi.

"It's nice to see her. It's nice to see how humble also she is. The fact she says she's a big fan of my game, that really impresses me."

You can understand why Sabatini is a Jabeur fan.

The graceful Sabatini, like Jabeur, was a master spin mixer, a skilled volleyer and a shotmaker, who was dazzling crowds with the famed "Sabatweenie", her running tweener, years before players ranging from Nick Kyrgios to Casper Ruud have thrilled fans with their tweener exploits.

One day, Jabeur hopes to realize her dream of hitting with Sabatini, who played Roland Garros Legends doubles with Gisela Dulko last spring.

"It was very nice talking to her, and hopefully we can meet more and maybe play tennis together again," Jabeur said. "We didn't get to hit. Just I have my routine, and it's very tough. I'm sure we will hit one day."
