The 138th-ranked Leonardo Mayer is the lowest-ranked ATP champion since then world No. 192 Florian Mayer toppled Alexander Zverev to win Halle in June, 2016.
Mixing heavy topspin with flatter strikes, Leonardo slashed 28 of his 44 winners off his forehand, frequently challenging Florian’s elaborate forehand wing in crosscourt exchanges.
Leonardo Mayer wrapped up a one hour, 57-minute victory winning the title he first raised back in 2014.
