Murray may be playing doubles only this week with his brother Jamie Murray at the Citi Open in Washington D.C. But the former world No. 1 is definitely looking forward to playing singles after successful hip surgery earlier this year.

During a press conference on Monday and at an informal chat with Renee Stubbs, Murray expressed confidence that his body was ready to take on singles play after playing more practice sets while in D.C.

While Murray is hopeful that he might be able to play singles in Cincinnati, it’s more likely he would be able to in New York should his progress continue to go well.

“Best case scenario is that I would play singles at the US Open. If not then doubles and mixed doubles,” Murray told Stubbs.

Murray is currently scheduled to play only doubles in Montreal next with Feliciano Lopez who he partnered with to win Queen’s Club last month.

Speaking of mixed doubles, no word yet on who Murray might team up with. Murray’s last minute pairing at Wimbledon with Serena Williams almost didn’t happen as he had to make the sign in deadline at the last minute.

In fact, Murray revealed to Stubbs that he rushed to the sign up office wearing his morning pajamas and slippers to make it in time.

The Murray brothers are scheduled to play Nicolas Mahut and Edouard Roger-Vasselin in the first round.
