Naomi Osaka’s 16-match Grand Slam winning streak came to a crashing halt today on Court Suzanne Lenglen as the World No.1 singles player fell to doubles world No. 1 Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic 6-2, 6-4.

Plagued by nerves and producing spotty form from the onset, Osaka never managed to find the consistency that would allow her to produce another three-set triumph.

The two-time Grand Slam champion struck 38 unforced errors in the one hour and 17-minute affair and was outplayed by Siniakova, who won all nine of her service games and saved all seven break points she faced in the opening set.

Siniakova reaches the round of 16 at a major for the first time and records her first victory in three tries against a reigning World No.1.

The Czech won the doubles title here in Paris last year with compatriot Barbora Krejcikova. She will face either Madison Keys or Anna Blinkova in the round of 16.

Osaka had won seven consecutive deciding sets at Grand Slams, including two in Paris earlier in the week.

There is some solace for Osaka: She will retain the world No. 1 ranking regardless of her third Roland Garros third-round exit in four career appearances in Paris.
