Jannik Sinner produced a dominant performance and swept aside Alex de Minaur to claim the NextGenATP Finals title on Saturday in Milan, 4-2 4-1 4-2.

The 18-year-old Italian capped off his breakout season, one that has seen him rise over 500 spots in the ATP rankings, with a jaw-dropping performance against the tenacious Aussie on Saturday at the Allianz Cloud in Milan.

The World No.95 kept the fleet-footed De Minaur pinned back behind the baseline and whenever he was in trouble he demonstrated a keen knack for delivering in the clutch by saving all nine break points he faced.

In total Sinner saved 27 of 31 break points during his five matches in Milan and he announced himself as a player that possesses a rare power in addition to a maturity beyond his years.

He never seemed flustered on a big occasion in front of a boisterous home crowd in Milan, and he never took his foot of the accelerator even as a resourceful De Minaur tried to mount his best defense.

“I don’t have words,” Sinner said in an interview after the final. “[De Minaur] is an unbelievable player. I just tried to play my game and not make any errors. I didn’t make many today, so I’m very happy with my performance. The week has been unbelievable. The crowd... You can hear them now. I’m very happy.”

Sinner broke once in each set—three times on eight opportunities overall—and will hope to follow the example of the tournament’s two previous winners.

Both Hyeon Chung (2017 champion) and Stefanos Tsitsipas (2018 champion) went on to reach the semifinals at the Australian Open in the following January after their titles.
