Top-seeded Yulia Putintseva pushed into the semis on home soil, defeating Anastasia Gasanova in three sets.

Yulia Putintseva is holding up her end of the bargain at the inaugural Astana Open in Kazakhstan. The top seed and hometown favorite is through to the semifinals after her three-set win over Russia’s Anastasia Gasanova, 6-4, 4-6, 6-0.

Putintseva has reached her second semifinal of the month (also Portoroz), and she will bid to reach her second final of the season and fifth her career on Friday when she meets Rebecca Peterson of Sweden in the semis.


Peterson, the No.6 seed, defeated Anastasia Potapova of Russia 6-4, 6-7(7), 6-4.

The lower-half semifinal will featured Romania’s Jacqueline Cristian, who defeated Aleksandra Krunic, 6-4, 6-3, and Belgium’s Alison Van Uytvanck.

Van Uytvanck, the No.2 seed, topped Russia’s Varvara Gracheva, 6-4, 6-4.
