Frances Tiafoe reached the round of 16 at Wimbledon for the first time. Seven other Americans have a chance to follow.

Frances Tiafoe is leading the American men as they push for the second week at Wimbledon.

Eight American men reached the third round this year at SW19, the most since 1996, and Tiafoe became the first to push through to the round of 16 on Friday as he topped Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik, 3-6, 7-6(1), 7-6(3), 6-4.

The 23rd-seeded American made waves at Wimbledon in 2021 as well. He knocked off No.3-seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas in the first round and went on to reach the third round.

This year he has parlayed wins over Andrea Vavassori, Maximilian Marterer and Bublik to his his fifth trip to a second week at a Slam.


24-year-old Tiafoe will face either Ugo Humbert or David Goffin in the round of 16.
