Day 2 is upon us at the US Open, with the top half of the men’s side and the bottom half of the women’s side set to contest first-round tilts in New York. Here’s a rundown of some of the key storylines to watch ahead of Tuesday.

Carlitos’ Quest
A year ago Carlos Alcaraz became the youngest US Open champion since 1990, winning the title by defeating Casper Ruud in a battle that was for the No.1 ranking as well as the trophy.
One year later the Spaniard is one of just five men to have won multiple Grand Slams prior to his 21st birthday, and he’ll open his bid to become the first man to successfully defend the US Open men’s singles titles since 2008 when he meets Dominik Koepfer in the second match of the night session.
At 53-6 on the season with six titles, Alcaraz has emerged as a true rival to Novak Djokovic, and he could very well meet the 23-time major champion in the final in two weeks’ time.
It all starts on Tuesday night in the big apple.
Venus at Night
43-year-old Venus Williams is keeping the Williams sisters legacy alive at this year’s US Open. The seven-time major champion will ring in the Day 2 night session with a battle against Belgian qualifier Green Minnen in a first-time meeting.
The legendary American will play her 100th US Open match as she bids for her 80th win, and her first at the Open since 2019.
What does Venus have left in the tank? Judging from Top-50 wins notched earlier this summer against Camila Giorgi and Veronika Kudermetova, the answer is ... plenty, and definitely enough for a few more US Open wins.
Isner’s Last Stand?
It’s all over but the shouting for American stalwart John Isner. The ATP’s all-time ace king hopes to shout at the top of his lungs at this year’s US Open, which will be his last tournament as a professional.
38-year-old Isner owns a 31-15 lifetime record at the US Open with two quarterfinals to his name. He will face Argentine’s Facundo Diaz Acosta in the third match on Louis Armstrong Stadium.
Isner, who owns 488 career wins and 16 titles, has racked up 14,411 career aces and he'll need to add to that total if he is to advance to round two.
Andy and Stan on the Grandstand
A pair of three-time Grand Slam champions will make Grandstand a hot ticket on Day 2, as 2012 US Open champion Andy Murray and 2016 champion Stan Wawrinka take their talents to the friendly confines of Grandstand for the second and third match on the schedule. 36-year-old Murray faces France’s Corentin Moutet while 38-year-old Wawrinka takes on Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka.
