Iga Swiatek is up and running at the WTA Finals.
The four-time Grand Slam champion, making her third career appearance at the WTA’s trophy event, sailed past WTA Finals debutant Marketa Vondrousova on Tuesday night, 7-6(3), 6-0.

World No.2 Swiatek, making her third WTA Finals appearance, moves to the top of the Chetumal Group, which also features Coco Gauff and Ons Jabeur (as well as Vondrousova).
The 22-year-old Pole was in trouble early, but quickly shifted gears after falling behind 5-2 in the opening set, as she won 11 of the final 12 games to improve to 64-11 on the season and 3-0 lifetime over sixth-ranked Vondrousova.
"I'm pretty happy that I adjusted, and that I could be more solid in the second set, that's why the score went like that," said Swiatek after her win. "For sure it wasn't easy, Marketa is a great player, especially with her spin from the left hand, it's always tough, so I'm happy I could make it."
Swiatek increased her number of 6-0 sets won in 2023 to 21 and improved to 9-6 against the Top-10 with her win.
"Just digging deep physically and not giving up and really fighting, even though I was 5-2 down in the first set," Swiatek said. "I'm happy that I could fight and that I won so many games in a row to win the set. It's something that for sure will give me confidence that I can come back from any score."
