(October 2, 2010) Caroline Wozniacki rallied past Elena Dementieva to win Tokyo and now nears a professional peak. The top-seeded Wozniacki roared back for a 1-6, 6-2, 6-3 triumph over Dementieva to capture the Pan Pacific Open championship in Tokyo today. If Wozniacki reaches the Beijing quarterfinals next week, she will surpass Serena Williams as the new World No. 1.

It was the fifth title of the season for Wozniacki, who stands on the verge of the top spot.

"Of course being number one has always been a goal of mine but I'm just focusing on winning the next tournament," said Wozniacki, who collected the $350,000 champion's check. "I feel I can beat anyone now. I have grown a bit not only physically but mentally. It's my 11th (career) title. I'm so happy."

The seventh-seeded Dementieva rolled through the first set, but went out with a whimper. Dementieva netted a forehand to hand Wozniacki the break and a 4-3 lead in the final set. Successive double faults from Dementieva ended the match.

"That was not the most exciting way to finish the match," said Dementieva. "I didn't use my opportunities and let her get back in it. I allowed her to play the way she likes to."
