World number one Caroline Wozniacki took on the American challenger, Vania King, beating her in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0. The Dane absolutely dominated the court, forcing King to race from side to side to even have a chance. By the end of the match the American looked quite winded by Wozniacki, forcing a few double faults and errors.
Justine Henin took on Elena Baltacha, beating her 6-1, 6-3. The former Belgian champion, currently ranked at 13, showed serious dominance against the 88th-ranked British challenger. She daftly controlled the ball and looks to be returning to her former glory.
American Mardy Fish is taking on Tommy Robredo, with the match at one set each so far. The 52nd-ranked Spaniard is certainly giving the top 20-ranked American a run for his money. More on this later.
Tomas Berdych is taking on Philipp Kohlscreiber with the match tied at one set apiece. The 6th-ranked Czech looks to make his first run into the top-5 of the international men’s tennis scene. The older German competitor has so far collected an unfortunate amount of unforced errors, but has held on with some great shots.
Andy Roddick has just begun to take on 99th-ranked Russian, Igor Kunitsyn.
