Marin Cilic may cite his own mother as the reason he failed a drugs test that has kept him out of action for months.

Croatia's top player, who is missing this week's Davis Cup tie between his country and Great Britain, was expected to appear in front of an ITF tribunal on Friday, according to Croatia's Davis Cup captain Zeljko Krajan.

Per the Daily Mail UK, Cilic is planning to explain that a glucose supplement purchased by his mother while Cilic competed in Monte-Carlo was the cause of his failed drug test later in the summer. Cilic is expected to say he did not read a warning label that said the supplement included an ingredient on the athlete's banned substance list.

Cilic withdrew from Wimbledon due to what was then called a "knee injury." But his failure to compete in hard court tournaments later this summer, along with increasing reports that he did fail a drug test, had many players asking for a clear explanation from the ITF.

Andy Murray, competing for Great Britain this week in Davis Cup said, "I think it’s about time everyone knew what was going on. Everyone knows what’s happening and he has clearly failed a drug test, I just don’t know why that can’t come out."
