(August 11, 2010) Copenhagen is turning the calendar page next year. Top-seeded Dane Caroline Wozniacki thrilled the home crowd by conquering Czech
Klara Zakopalova 6-2 7-6(5) to capture the inaugural e-Boks Sony Ericsson Open in Copenhagen on Sunday. next year, Wozniacki will defend her title in June.

The
Copenhagen tournament will shift its spot in the WTA Tour calendar to the week after
Roland Garros in 2011.

Wozniacki won her eighth Sony Ericsson WTA Tour singles title, raising her record to 8-7 in finals. The 20-year-old Dane is 2-1 in finals this season. She was runner-up to Jelena Jankovic at Indian Wells and beat Olga Govortsova to win Ponte Vedra Beach.



An ankle injury she sustained in the Charleston semifinals hampered Wozniacki throughout much of the spring season, but she says she feels fine now after a French Open quarterfinal finish and Wimbledon round of 16 result.

"I really enjoyed my week here and thought I played some great tennis," Wozniacki said on Sunday. "I think it’s great for Danish tennis that this event happened, and it’s just nice that so many people came here to support me. I’ve got a big stretch of tournaments coming up, but I felt like I needed a lot of matches – my ankle is no longer an issue and when I’m healthy I feel like I really want to play.”

The US Open finalist will face veteran Sybille Bammer in her opening-round Cincinnati match today. The winner will take on 16th-seeded Marion Bartoli in the round of 16. Bartoli beat Alona Bondarenko in straight sets.
