(March 4, 2010) Tommy Haas' ailing hip has stalled his season.

Haas underwent surgery on Saturday, February 27, for a two-inch labrum tear he suffered from in his right hip, Lagardère Unlimited, Haas' management agency announced.

"This just another hurdle in my career," said Haas, who fell in the first round of Delray Beach last week. "I have faced many obstacles before, and I know what it takes to get back out there and on the top of my game."

The 18th-ranked Haas will be sidelined for several months, prompting his immediate withdrawal from ATP Masters 1000 events in Indian Wells and Miami and the U.S. Men's Clay Court Championships in Houston.

"We are saddened by the news of Tommy’s recent injury that will force him to sit out at the upcoming spring hard court events," commented Ken Meyerson, President of Lagardere Unlimited and Haas’ agent.  "He has dealt with several obstacles such as this through the course of his career, and we know he will overcome this and return to the Tour as soon as he is able to."

A year ago, Haas advanced to the Round of 16 at Roland Garros and led Roger Federer by two sets before falling in a five-set thriller.  Following Roland Garros, Haas also won the Gerry Webber Open in Halle, Germany, and later continued on at the Wimbledon Championships defeating ninth-ranked Marin Cilic and second-ranked Novak Djokovic before falling to eventual champion Federer in his debut semifinal appearance.
