(October 12, 2010) The WTA Tour Championships in Doha will likely be without both Venus Williams and Serena Williams, but US Open champion Kim Clijsters is putting her best foot forward in an effort to compete in the season-ending event set for
October 26-31st at the Khalifa International Tennis Complex in Doha, Qatar.

The fifth-ranked Clijsters, who stepped out of the China Open in Beijing after having a mole under her right foot removed and suffering an infection from the process, announced today her foot is healing.

"Foot is healing well, still a little cut but not painful anymore!" Clijsters said on Twitter. Clijsters has not played a match since she crushed Vera Zvonareva, 6-2, 6-1, to successfully defend her US Open crown.

WTA Tour execs must surely be breathing a sigh of relief over positive news from the Clijsters camp after Venus Williams announced last week she is done for the season due to the left knee injury that forced her out of the US Open Series and younger sister Serena Williams said she is "likely" out for the rest of the season due to "re-straining" her right foot injury that has sidelined her since she beat Zvonareva to win Wimbledon in July.

New World No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki, Zvonareva, Clijsters, Samantha Stosur, Francesca Schiavone, Elena Dementieva and Jelena Jankovic, have all qualified for singles. If Serena pulls out of Doha as expected, then one more spot in the singles field will be decided at next week's Kremlin Cup in Moscow.

The doubles teams of Gisela Dulko/Flavia Pennetta, Kveta Peschke/Katarina Srebotnik, Lisa Raymond/Rennae Stubbs and Vania King/Yaroslava Shvedova have all qualified for the season-ending event

The world’s top eight singles players and top four doubles teams will compete for the coveted WTA Championships title and a share of the $4.5 million in prize money.
