(July 20, 2010) Serena Williams' injured right foot has already forced her out of the US Open Series, now her participation in the US Open is in doubt.

The World No.1 has withdrawn from Sony Ericsson WTA Tour events in Istanbul, Cincinnati, and Montréal as a result of a necessary procedure on her right foot.

WTA Tour spokesman Andrew Walker told the Associated Press Williams is questionable for the US Open, which starts on August 30th.

Last week, Williams cut the bottom of her foot on a broken glass while at a restaurant. At the time, the extent of the injury was unknown. The injury also forced Williams to cancel her scheduled World TeamTennis appearances.

The 13-time Grand Slam champion had not made a public statement on her participation in the season's final Grand Slam.

"I am having a tough few days. My mom and friends have been taking good care of me," Williams said in a tweet on Twitter yesterday. "I hope to be back on the Tour soon. I miss playing."

Williams lost to Kim Clijsters in the 2009 US Open semifinals and was fined $82,500 after being defaulted following her outburst at a lineswoman over a foot fault call. Her return to New York this year is one of the most compelling story lines of the season's final Grand Slam.

In a conference call with the media earlier this month, Williams said she was looking forward to returning to the Open and believed she would face less pressure since

Williams says believes she will come back feeling less pressure because she's not the defending champion.

"I think I just will be happy to get there," Williams said of returning to the US Open. "And obviously not happy I didn't win the last one, but I won't have to worry about defending my title and it's always easier going into a tournament where you don't have to defend your title. I'll be happy about that and looking to just do my best.
