The tennis cathedral will welcome a noted new voice to the commentary choir.

Former world No. 1 Andy Roddick makes his long-awaited debut as an ESPN analyst for the network’s Wimbledon coverage, which starts on Monday.

Former No. 1 Pete Sampras famously called Centre Court Wimbledon “a tennis cathedral.” Roddick can bring pointed opinion to the pageantry and the experience of playing one of the most dramatic Wimbledon finals in history, bowing 16-14 in the fifth set to Roger Federer in the 2009 Wimbledon final.

The 2003 US Open champion Roddick, who remains the last American man to win a Grand Slam singles championship, is a three-time Wimbledon finalist and one of the sport’s most popular podcasters.

“[Roddick brings] a lot. He’s got a great personality,” ESPN analyst Patrick McEnroe told the media in the network’s Zoom call last week to promote its Wimbledon coverage. “He’s been doing his podcast, which has been incredibly successful.

“Obviously as player we know what he did winning the US Open, multiple other finals, including a few at Wimbledon. He’s very outspoken, very smart, and opinionated. I think he’s going to be amazing. It will be a lot of fun to work with him.”

ESPN today announced its commentary team and TV schedule for The Championships 2026.

Legendary champion Chrissie Evert, a long-time ESPN commentator, sadly will not be covering The Championships this year.

The 18-time Grand Slam champion announced ovarian cancer has returned and she’s continuing her ongoing cancer battle.

“This past weekend, after undergoing CT and PET scans, I learned that my ovarian cancer has returned,” Evert, 71, posted. “I have already undergone surgery as the first step in my treatment and recovery, and will begin chemotherapy in the coming weeks.”

The network’s broadcast schedule starts Monday, June 29th with daily coverage from all 18 courts on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN Deportes (Spanish) and streaming on the ESPN App for ESPN Unlimited plan subscribers. ABC will broadcast select live Round of 16 matches on Sunday, July 5th, between noon and 5 p.m. ET. All Disney+ subscribers can access Day 1 action of the tournament directly within the app.

Wimbledon will climax with the Ladies’ Championship and the Gentlemen’s Doubles Championship on Saturday, July 11, and the Gentlemen’s Championship and the Ladies’ Doubles Championship on Sunday, July 12, on ESPN, ESPN Deportes and streaming on the ESPN App. ABC encore presentations of the Ladies’ and Gentlemen’s Championships air on July 11 and 12 at 3 p.m. each day.

So sorry to hear about Chris Evert’s cancer returning. See is a fighter, so I am rooting for her recovery.

Take Wosniaki off. She never shuts up.

I so agree with Linda. You can’t even enjoy a match when Wozniacki is commentating. Today she was worse than ever! And no one cares about her past!!

Carolyn Wozniacki talks way to much, can’t watch a match when she is commentating.

I had to finally shut off the Coco Gauff, Benic game because Chris Fowler and Caroline Wozniacki just can’t stop talking through points and even about other matches with other players. So disrespectul to the viewers and the current players. I wrote to ESPN yesterday about Caroline. Just nonstop!!

Agree. Sorry for this lady but she is aggravating millions of folks with her constant chatter, and with Chris’ experience, he should manage this! The girl is just way overdoing it! Miss our usual traditional girl!

Caroline is horrible….who made her so perfect?

Chris Fowler also, in addition to Caroline Wosynicaki, is nonstop talking throughout matches and now with the Eala and Paolini match. About to shut it off again. Just can’t tolerate the constant talking. Do they think they are on the radio with no visuals???

The worst. The absolute worst. Both of them. I always want to say: “I’m so sorry that this tennis match is interfering with your conversation.” I watched 85% of this match with the sound muted. Both of them — Carolyn and Chris Fowler — are insufferable.

I’ve been very disappointed with the coverage of Jessie Pegula. She was number four seed in this tournament and didn’t have a match broadcast that I could watch until the quarterfinals. Even then y’all talked about Coco Gauff the whole time and rarely even mentioned Jessie. Very disappointing.

Yeah, it seems like the general consensus is that these commentators talk way too much and show way too much commentary instead of showing more match play. When I’ve heard the same story 20 times in two days that just tells us that they’re talking way too much I need to show more Tennis.
