Alize Cornet eased past resurgent Eugenie Bouchard for the Hobart International title on Saturday, 6-1, 6-2, to claim her fifth career title and first since 2014. The Frenchwoman broke Bouchard’s serve seven times on 13 opportunities to earn her first career victory over Bouchard.
Both Cornet and Bouchard could play blockbusters in the second round at Australia. Cornet could face second-seeded Simona Halep if she gets by Bojana Jovanovski; Bouchard could see 4th-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska if she defeats Aleksandra Krunic in the first round.
