The 163rd-ranked qualifier is enjoying playing a pivotal part in a special week for his family – his brother Mikael is into the semifinals at Montpellier (defeating Richard Gasquet on Friday), making the tandem the first all-brother duo to reach the semifinals on tour during the same week since 2017, when Alexander Zverev ('s-Hertogenbosch) and Mischa Zverev (Stuttgart) reached semifinals in the third week of June.

Ymer will face Portugal’s Joao Sousa, who reached his first tour-level semifinal since 2019, defeating Daniel Altmaier, 6-2, 6-3. Sousa is bidding for his 10th ATP final.

The lower-half semifinal will feature Emil Ruusuvuori of Finland and Kamil Majchrzak of Poland.

Ruusuvuori, who defeated Jiri Vesely, 6-3, 6-4, will bid for his first ATP final after dropping his first four semifinals. The World No.66 improved to 7-2 in 2022 with his victory on Friday.

Majchrzak, ranked 95, topped Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti, the No.2 seed, 6-2, 6-7(5), 6-4.
