After his 7-6, 7-6 exhibition grass-court victory over Canada’s Milos Raonic at the Boodles exhibition in Stoke Park, England, French Open semifinalist Ernests Gulbis gave a pretty hilarious on-court interview in which he aired out the self-deprecating humor that has made him a cult figure on the ATP tour.

Asked by the interviewer how his grass court game was shaping up, Gulbis grabbed her microphone and replied with a laugh: “I feel very clumsy on grass, but it’s getting better.”

Later the interviewer points to a row full of champagne-drinking women who had apparently taken a liking to the lovable Latvian, and tells the boisterous crowd that Gulbis had gotten engaged to one of the ladies in the group in the player’s enclosure earlier in the day, to which Gulbis replies: “No, I don’t need another headline. Last headline I got was that I lost a half a million Euros in the casino. The next day my mother sent me a text next day, saying am I nuts?”

Gulbis then shoots a loving look at the aforementioned lady in green and says with a giggle, “I like you a lot, but not yet – I need to think about it.”

In other words: Good times at the Boodles.

This isn’t the first time players have hammed it up at the Boodles. Last year, Novak Djokovic and Grigor Dimitrov broke into a mid-match strip tease, which can be seen here (should you be curious).
