(January 16, 2013) -- Not only did Sam Stosur have to suffer the ignominious fate of being dumped out of the Australian Open early again (and going 1-3 over the course of the Australian summer), she also has to live with the knowledge that she threw in one of the ugliest mishit serves in the history of tennis on Wednesday. Lost in the shuffle and the choke accusations is the fact that Zheng Jie, a former Australian Open semifinalist, played a heck of a match to get past Stosur in what ended up being one of the most compelling matches of the first two rounds.

Zheng was just better on this day, and we can certainly forgive Stosur for that. As for as the serve that nearly hit one of the back lineseople before it landed, we shan't be forgiving that anytime soon.
